One day, my close friend (owner/creator of came to visit me and of course we got into the topic of my new hobby. She started to look through my knitting books and picked out something she wanted me to knit. She ended up choosing a pair of super duper cute monster slippers from the book Knitting MOCHIMOCHI by Anna Hrachovec and wanted to give these to her husband as a Valentines day gift. I hope these slippers are keeping your feet cozy and warm!

Hi, meet Holly!

She is my very first knitted doll and she turned out not too shabby eh? Her pattern is based on the Little Red Riding Hood doll by Jean Greenhowe in the book Knitted Toys. For the cheeks, I used makeup, which worked really well! The book; however, recommended rubbing on red pencil crayon but I was worried that the colour might turn out blotchy.

My challenge for any dolls that I might knit in the future is to make them look more modernized. Any suggestions?

On a side note, doesn’t Holly look like Molly from the Big Comfy Couch?

Pattern from Knitting MOCHIMOCHI by Anna Hrachovec.

Mr Pencil and his friends loves to draw
They practice hard so that there are no flaws

Mr Pencil’s task is to draw the outline
Anything from clouds to trees to pumpkin vines

The other colours take their turn to fill in the rest
Making sure to blend and not creating a big mess

Unfortunately, Mr Pencil and his friends don’t have any real ink
The pictures they create are imagined and requires one to think

Having real ink or not
Their friendship means a lot lot lot!

The pattern for these cute cupcakes can be found in Teeny-Tiny MOCHIMOCHI by Anna Hrachovec.

Twenty happy-go-lucky cupcakes were lined up in four rows
Getting cotton stuffing until their body overflows

First, their black beady eyes were stitched on
Then with red a little mouth was drawn

The now plumpy cupcakes continued to move along
While waiting for their cherries, they sang a lot of songs

Then a few of the cupcakes fell out of the long line
When they began arguing for that special cherry, “Mine!” “Mine!” “Mine!”

They ended up in a different location than the rest
It was in the Pom Pom Factory! This was not their request

These three cupcakes now had Pom Poms on their head
One of them was so excited that he fled

This silly and naughty cupcake discovered a new place
And got bedazzled with sparkles all over his face!

From the North Pole February 1, 2012

This little Santa comes from the North
He travels here and there, back and forth

Searching for his reindeers
He looks up in the air

But finds himself lost
Out in the cold frost

So he sits by the window ledge
Leaning close and not off the edge

He hears a wave of bells go by
And looks high above in the sky

“There are all my deers!”
He shouts loud and cheers

He returns to the North, hip hip hooray!
but we know that he will escape one day

Because this Santa is full of surprises
He will be carrying lots of cool prizes!
